“Jane, you spoke of
giving love. There is something I do not understand. When I was younger,
I gave love—or tried to—but I was only scorned, or used by those who
pretended friendship to further their own means.”
“There
are different levels of love,” Jane replied. “A sense of goodwill
toward all things is important. For love of a deeper nature, one must
use discernment; one must be aware. Even Jesus, in his vast wisdom,
admonished, “Do not cast your pearls among the swine!”
“There
are many who, in the darkness of their slumber, will fear and abuse the
Light. Love is Light—a pearl
beyond price. Use discernment, Sarah. Give to those who will value the
pearl. For the rest: keep them in your prayers. You can do nothing more
for them, and they will only drag you down if you try.”
