Honoring Animals, Nature, and Spirit
by S
ara Victoria

I love all of Doreen Virtue's books. She is truly a loving spirit and a pure channel. Although she is best known for her angelic messages, she is actually a Universal Communicator, which means she can communicate with the spirits of all life forms.

In her book, "Healing With the Fairies," Doreen wrote something has has always stayed with me. The Nature Angels, also known as Fairies, told her that animals and plants are happy to serve the Greater Good. They told her that most animals and plants don't really mind being used for service or for food. What they feel so very sad about is how they are mistreated and devalued by most humans.

Most of us want to feel that our lives have meaning, and that we have contributed something for a greater cause. Animals and plants feel that way, too. Like us, they want to be appreciated for who they are and the service they give. Just like we do.

If animals are treated kindly during life, and honored during death, then they will naturally impart love, health, and blessings upon those who partake of them. Sadly, as it is, most of us are actually ingesting fear and pain when we eat, especially when we eat meat. It doesn't have to be this way. It wasn't meant to be this way. Native Americans knew the truth of this, and honoring animals and Nature was a very important part of life for them. Many Native Americans and other indigenous peoples are remembering their heritage, and they are teaching the world ways to live in harmony with our Earth.

Some of us choose to live more consciously than others. But we all know the difference between kindness and cruelty. And each of us can make a huge difference in our world by making small adjustments in our habits. We can begin here and now, as easily as making a choice, to make this a Kinder World.

Here are some simple things each of us can do. You can just start with one or two, and then add others as it feels right to you. Every little bit helps.

Simple things we can each do for our world and our bodies

  • Buy organic as much as possible. It's better for the Earth, the insects (such as bees and butterflies), the birds, the animals, your body, and your Spirit.

Note: I recently watched a PBS special on honey bees. Even though, in many areas, they are disappearing at a rapid rate, they are actually thriving where flowering crops are tended with organic practices. This is so important, for all of us. Without the bees, the trees will not be able to bear fruit. We can help them survive by doing this one thing.

  • Support Humane Farming. Buy organic meat products, and cage-free eggs. Usually, organic farmers treat their animals much better than factory farmers. PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is a wonderful resource for information about companies that are animal-friendly. Please support those who CARE, so that others will also incorporate these good practices.

  • Buy eco-friendly products, such as natural cleaning products that don't contain lots of chemicals. Seventh Generation is just one company that produces many good products for the home, including dishwashing and laundry detergents, that can be found in most stores.

The fairies told Doreen that all of the chemicals and poisons being poured into our Waters are alarming. They plead for all of us to use natural cleaning
agents--this is so much more important than we think it is. And it's so simple to do.

  • Use natural fertilizers and natural pest control in your yard. When possible, recycle and, if you have a yard, learn to make compost. It is easy and fun!

  • Eat healthy, natural foods. Read the labels. Many people are unaware that most ice cream, for example, is full of chemicals. Buy the natural products, and you'll feel so much better! Usually, the less processed a food it, the better it is for you.

  • Don't drink bottled water, or at least greatly reduce the bottled water you drink. Please read this short article: Just Say No To Bottled Water

  • Choose To Be Kind. Be kind to your pets, your plants, your family, your friends, your co-workers, and your Self!  Kindness is healthy!

  • Smile and laugh often. The angels tell us that the pollution from negative thinking around our planet is just as harmful as the chemical pollution. By being positive and kind, you are sending out healing energy.

Tip  It is much easier to be positive if you limit the negativity you allow into your life. Just imagine if, for entertainment, you read only inspirational books, and watched only inspirational movies. How much brighter would your attitude be?

  • Sing! Even if you sing just for you! The vibrations from singing are very healing--that's why so many religions have hymns and chanting as part of their daily routines. Plus, it's fun!

  • Please teach your children to be kind to animals. When you are at a park, don't let your children throw rocks at birds. Don't let them chase the birds, and don't allow them to hit the trees with sticks and stones. I can't count how many times I've gone out of my way to ask kids to stop these kinds of activities, while their parents stood by without saying a word. Please explain to your children that animals and trees are our friends, and they deserve our kindness. We depend on them, and they depend on us.

When your children are full of energy, encourage them to run and play tag, or do other harmless and fun activities, such as a building project or gardening project. You could encourage them to take up a hobby that requires exercise as well as sensitivity, such as photography. There are many constructive and fun ways to use energy. All they need is a little guidance to point them in the right direction.

  • Start asking for Divine assistance with everything you do, and ask blessings for everyone around you. The angels want to help, and they can accomplish much in a short amount of time.

Many of us feel so burdened by life, that we aren't able to make much progress. Doreen Virtue tells us that Heaven is full of "underemployed angels" just waiting for us to call upon them for assistance. They can't help unless we ask. So ask, and be grateful for your blessings, whatever they may be. And then, when you feel inspired to take an action, take it.

Often times, our minds or our friends will try to talk us out of things, for whatever reason. It can be out of habit, or jealousy, or because they truly think they know best. But only You know what is right for you. Inspiration and heart-felt feelings are the way the angels and Spirit guide us to right action, and they are cheering us on every step of the way! They are so happy when we actually LISTEN. So, tune out all the chaos, and tune IN the Voice of Peace, Love, Hope, and Faith. When you do, things start working in wonderful ways.

  • Be in Nature as often as you can. She is the most healing influence on Earth. When we are kind to Nature, we help her to be kind to us.
