Inspiration from the
Olympics

 Today
I watched the Opening Ceremonies for the 2008 Summer Olympics in China. It’s
truly an inspiration to see so many
people who have dedicated themselves to excellence.
Yet, what I find most
inspiring is the SPIRIT. Not the spirit of competition, but of something
more ephemeral: It’s a sense of knowing who you are, and what your
purpose is. Those who participate in such events seem to have an inner
knowing and confidence about themselves. Perhaps that’s one reason we
love to watch them.
At the end of the
ceremonies, they played a song that fit perfectly. It began:
"This
is who I am
This is what I do."
We
should all be living this song!
But,
for many of us, living this kind of truth seems like a far-away dream. Why
is that?
We
live in a strange world of contradictions and double standards that often
make no sense. We hear all the time that we should “do our best.” Yet,
how many of us have been taught not
to do our best because whenever we do, people get jealous and resentful?
Sometimes people in our own families, or people we believe are our best
friends, do this. Consequently, many people learn to down-play their talents, their beauty, their ideas...and
themselves.
You may have been
severely hurt by people who were jealous of you, for whatever reason. Usually
jealous people are also very controlling, and they want to make sure that
others “stay in their place.”
The bottom line is:
If
you allow people’s opinions and weirdnesses to control your life, you will
end up not having lived! You will be like a Star that's unable to shine.
You will look back on your life with regret and sorrow. Don't let
this happen.
Nearly everyone
who has ever made something of themselves has had to learn this important
lesson. We all have to make a choice, eventually. Will you live for the
good opinion of others (which is often fickle and hard to come by)? Or
will you live for the good opinion of your Self?
I'm not talking about the
ego-self here, but the Higher Self.
It’s
time to take up the challenge of our own lives!
Don’t hide your talents
any longer! Share them any way you can. Just do your work! Get your message out.
Do what you came here to do. If
you continue to hold back the best parts of who you are, you are only allowing
them to win. Do you really want the bullies to win?!
It’s
time to take back your life!
It’s time to pick up
the torch that God handed you when your Soul first chose to come here.
There IS an important reason you are here. Don’t let others keep you
down. There is no truth in their lies.
Most of us have been
living far beneath our potentials. Find a way to express your truth
safely. Find a way that brings a feeling of peace to your Heart, and then
you’ll know you’re on the right path.
