Truth,
and the Straight and Narrow Path
Sometimes it's easier to understand something when one looks at the opposite. In this case: a twisting and wide path, which would probably be a fair description of the paths most people travel. What makes that so? Temptations, distractions, ego, people telling us to do one thing, and then another...and another...for "our own good"...while we quietly subdue the promptings in our own Hearts. How did the world become a "rat race"? Why do so many people identify with that poor little rat, running round and round on the circular wheel and getting no where? How did it come to this?! I read that, in a recent survey, 91% of the respondents admitted they lie on a regular basis. Most of them say they are "little white lies" so "there is little harm." Yet where do the "little" lies end, and the "bigger" lies begin? What do these statistics say about how much we can trust others, or depend upon them? Or ourselves? What has happened to the timeless values of veracity, honor, and integrity? Usually, when we are young, it is natural for us to tell the truth, as we understand it. Then we encounter shock, and even resentment, for our honesty. Eventually, most people start telling "little white lies" just to get along. And some people take it much further than that. And then, you know what happens? The lies create a fog of confusion. People lose themselves, and they lose their own Self-Respect. This is not an easy world to live in. Entrapments and pretenders are everywhere. And most of them pretend to know what's best for you. Many of them are in positions of authority, or pretend to be friends. As long as you stay "in the fold" you might feel safe, but you will never feel free. To live an imitation of someone else's vision is just another trap. Only you know what's right for you...yet you only know this when you are being honest with yourself and your world. Sometimes we have to get "off track" to understand what others go through, as a lesson in Compassion. But we don't have to stay there. We don't have to stay lost. Please don't beat yourself up for getting off track, no matter how long you have been there. You've probably learned a lot in the process. They are good lessons that have helped make you wiser. It's never too late to get back on track. It's a choice we each make. And we can make it now. In fact, each day we make The
Choice. It takes Courage to choose Truth. And some days we do better than others. And we always learn a lot
in the process. Often, we teach others a lot, too, without even realizing
it. One Thing Is Certain One thing is certain: The straight and narrow path depends on Truth. Perhaps one of the greatest lessons for all of us is to learn to discern the True from the False. This is not an easy lesson for many reasons, two of which are: 1) what is true, and right, for one person may not be true for another, and 2) there is much deception in this world which is both tolerated and condoned. However your Truth looks, at this particular time in your life, I believe there are universal aspects to Real Truth. What Truth is not: It is not controlling, blaming, or judging. (Many people are confused about the difference between being judgmental and having discernment. They are vastly different, and it is imperative to learn discernment if you want to live a healthy life.) What the Spirit of Truth is: It guides. It is loving, it is kind. It frees you! And it must be found in, or resonate with, your own Heart. If you can honor it there, and value your OWN expression of Truth that is your birthright, you will find that your path becomes more clear for you. It will become straighter. At first, your path may also become narrower, as far as worldly affairs are concerned. Because you are beginning to discern what is Real and what is Worthy...for You. And only those who are in a similar place--willing to put Truth above lies and pretense--will understand you. The others will fall away. You simply won't be in harmony with them anymore. This "falling away" time may be a lonely time, for a while. But it is well worth it. Once you find your True Path, your True Work, and purpose for being on this Earth, you will begin to attract those who resonate with what you have to say. And you will, at last, feel right with your world. I feel I must add that it is
possible to be both honest and kind. Gandhi was a good role model for
this, as was Jesus. Truth without compassion is not an honorable use of
this virtue. Like everything else, even Truth can be used as a weapon in
the hands of those who are thoughtless, or have ill intent. The motives
for what we do determine the type of energy, and the type of world, we
create. "Know Thy Self"
"Be True to thine
own Self, and thou canst not then be false to any man."
"'What shall it
profit a man, if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul."
